It combines courses from Rhetoric & Media Studies, Sociology, Design Thinking & Studio Art/Art History while integrating philosophies and perspectives from each of these established disciplines.

My degree focuses on three pivotal questions: How do ideas evolve? How do individuals develop? And how does society progress? Really, the question is how do I/we become my/our best and thrive together? It’s a fundamental question of all living organisms.

All the rhetoric aside, my major came into existence, while probably already existing in other forms elsewhere, because it allowed me to do what I wanted to do within the realm of academia, which paradoxically, was largely to step outside the academic structure and begin LIVING my education.

I was done going to school for the main purpose of getting a job after I had graduated. I began to view “living and learning as overlapping experiences”. In doing so I throughly enjoyed thinking critically and learning, which are ideals of the current academic structure.

By creating a major I integrated life into my schooling and my schooling into my life, which to me should be the essence of education.

I’ll end with a question: What function is school currently playing in the lives of students?
