I find it super satisfying to transcribe images in my head onto paper. And I love viewing art and analyzing the techniques and styles of other artists. It’s also just super fun experimenting with so many colors and materials!
Jayson Nyampong
Black Beauty, by 18-year-old Jayson Nyampong of Arlington, Texas, is the second place 2021 Creative Outlook Cover Contest winner.
Nyampong’s preferred mediums, as showcased in the winning piece, are graphite, charcoal and oil paints. Although, occasionally he’ll break out pencils and hopes to learn pastels soon.
He’s been drawing as long as he could remember, getting a start in simple portraits and evolving from there.
“I find it super satisfying to transcribe images in my head onto paper,” Nyampong said. “And I love viewing art and analyzing the techniques and styles of other artists. It’s also just super fun experimenting with so many colors and materials!”
Nyampong can’t point to a particular moment of inspiration for “Black Beauty.”
“But one thing that I think inspired this art is simply my African heritage and trying to communicate the beauty I find with it.”
